Matte Paintings

A year ago I worked as a matte painter on the french feature "The Boy with the Cuckoo-Clock Heart".
I did a lot of skydomes which was challenging and fun, but I'm glad the good folks at the modeling and texture departments also left some cities and wide vistas to paint for us, as to have break from the wonderful world of clouds!
So here's a selection of some of the work I did. As the matte paintings best come to their right when compositing has done some of their magic, I also added some final composits!

Here I did the snow and icing on the sea, and tried very well to hide my face in the already rendered rock work. But even when I point it out to people they hardly see it, and it's totally out of focus in the movie anyway, so this one's for the really die-hard easter egg hunters amongst you!

Obviously the geometry would block the lowest part of this skydome, so don't mind the rude finishing.

Well, that's it for now.I've been doing a lot of 2D backgrounds in the past year, so expect some of that when these movies will be released! (hopefully that won't be too long from now...)
